Wildlife Corridors Mapping - Byron Shire Council

3 June 2025

Byron Shire Council has created an online Wildlife Corridors Map—a powerful tool designed to help landholders, community groups, and nature stewards restore and protect vital habitat across the region! Its a great blueprint to follow to support better habitat connectivity! It's based on the shires most threated and least mobile native species, helping to provide a guide to prioritise where best to connect patches of healthy habitat, and where to focus efforts on restoration.

By exploring the map, you can:

            • See if your property falls within a wildlife corridor.
            • Identify local threatened species that may benefit from your habitat restoration efforts.
            • Access tailored native plant lists suited to your area.
            • Get practical tips on creating or enhancing wildlife-friendly spaces.

Whether you’re planning a backyard planting, managing a rural property, or coordinating a community project, this tool empowers you to make informed, meaningful contributions to local biodiversity.

Together, we can help reconnect and regenerate the landscapes that our native species call home.
